Our Volunteer Tutors provide 1:1 and small group tutoring for adults looking to improve their reading, writing, basic math, or basic computer skills. Tutors are needed for both daytime and evening classes in Georgetown, Milton and Acton. Tutoring sessions are 12-15 weeks in length. Students are matched with volunteers continuously from September through to July.
"I became involved as a literacy volunteer tutor because I firmly believe that everyone has the right to know how to read and understand what they are reading. Some days there are spelling challenges, other days there are life lessons. EVERY week there is a reward in spending time with my student as we learn together and from each other. I consider it a privilege to share my student's journey in learning and look forward to each week at Literacy North Halton with my student."
Volunteer training workshops are offered 2 times per year, in the fall and spring.
Suitable for: Adults who have completed a minimum of high school level education who wish to help another adult improve their literacy skills up to grade 9 level for employment, further education or training, and increased independence.
